About AYS
Ashtanga Yoga Shala Minneapolis provides instruction in Mysore-style Ashtanga. We offer early morning classes on most days and a ‘led’ style class once a week.
We are a collective of practitioners and instructors who practice and have been educated in the ashtanga vinyasa teaching method. The method is lineage based (we call this parampara), and it is based on the‘8 limbs’ of yoga - yama, niyama, ASANA, PRANAYAMA, pratyahara, dharana, dhyana and samadhi.

Phoebe Krejci (she / her)
Phoebe has been studying and practicing yoga regularly since her formative years. First exposed to ashtanga in the 90’s, she embraced it completely and passionately in 2014 and has since completed trainings in Primary and Intermediate series with Tim Miller & Holly Gastil at the Ashtanga Yoga Center in Encinitas, CA. Phoebe’s study of the method is is ongoing with Steven Dwelley (Santa Barbara, CA) and Dena Kingsberg (Byron Bay, Australia).
Phoebe got started teaching ashtanga in the Twin Cities under the guidance and of Lynn Thomasberg, a revered local Ashtanga instructor who taught Ashtanga locally for 20 years. When Lynn was ready to finish up teaching in 2019 Phoebe stepped in for Lynn, and now continues to share this seriously fun and powerful methodology, now through AYS Minneapolis.

Bryan Carpenter (he / him)
Bryan discovered ashtanga style vinyasa yoga in 2003 while expanding his fitness club habit to a yoga studio near his workplace. Once this particular style was introduced to me, his studio network grew to include several metro studios and eventually found a a studio that offered "mysore" style classes (in uptown, taught by Lynn Thomasberg). this method of following his own tempo and shifting needs / abilities while working directly with a knowledgeable instructor was his awakening to a dedicated practice style and community. since this time, expansion and awareness have grown through sustained practice and building relationships with several teachers, authors, and mentors. this knowledge allows for grounding and relational stability even within an external environment of instability and growing disconnection.
Bryan’s experience with teaching mysore-style class began in fall/winter of 2014 at One Yoga when he was asked to step in for one of his teachers on maternity leave, (Ellie Wannemacher), and since this time has been sharing the practice with others in the community. Bryan is honored to be a part of this lineage of direct transmission, rooted within the wisdom, knowledge, and practices of the vedas.
Bryan continues to study the in the method with Angela Jamison (Ann Arbor, MI) and with Ben Vincent of Shakti Shala, Minneapolis.
